Tree Hazard Management Update – External Users (Contractors)

There has been some important changes for the tree hazard management system used by Victorian Emergency Services for this 2021/22 fire season.

What’s New?

JSOP 08.03 – Tree Hazard Fire was recently updated and approved by the Emergency Management Commissioner and the other emergency agency Chiefs. The changes are effective from 1st November 2021.
The symbols used to mark and identify hazard trees on the fireground are changing to align with AFAC’s National Standard. These new marking symbols will establish consistency between jurisdictions and help avoid interstate and cross border confusion at incidents.

Updated Tree Hazard Awareness Training Courses (Action required)

An important online training course has been established to help inform and retrain our people about these changes. All fireline staff and external contractors are required to complete this refresher training and we ask that you prioritise this as part of your preparations for the 2021/22 fire season. This course takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Please Note: Prior to the change in the JSOP contractors were directed to complete Basic Wildfire Awareness (BWA) only and advised that BWA contained a tree hazard awareness component. This has now changed, all contractors will have to enrol in the separate Tree Hazard Awareness Update and if required BWA, your employer will advise if you need to complete BWA.
